National Burger Day: Top five burger ideas using rapeseed oil

When is National Burger Day?

National Burger Day takes place in the UK every year on the Thursday before the English August Bank Holiday.

As the August Bank holiday is typically blessed with good weather and presents an ideal opportunity to BBQ, there couldn’t be a better date to celebrate everything burger related.

What is National Burger Day?

The UK National Burger Day started in 2013 and was popularised by Mr Hyde - an online food publication. The main aim of the day was to celebrate and nurture the growing burger culture in the UK. From classic beef burgers to gourmet burger creations, national burger day is a chance for restaurants, home cooks and food lovers across the country to come together over a shared love of burgers.

Our National Burger Day Top Five

The team here at littleseed are all big burger fans so we thought we would share our top 5 burger tips and tricks. These include our favourite burger ideas, burger sides, burger toppings and best burger condiments.

How to make the perfect burger fried onions

This one is simple but so delicious.

  1. Add a generous glug of littleseed Cold Pressed British Rapeseed Oil to a pan over a medium heat.

  2. Thinly slice a large white onion and add to the pan.

  3. Move the onions round the pan so they separate and get lightly coated in oil.

  4. Put a lid on the pan, turn the heat down and let them sweat for 10 minutes until they are golden brown with some caramelization.

  5. Once the burgers are ready, add a generous serving of the soft and sweet fried onions to your burger stack.

Make your own Garlic & Herb Mayo

A garlic mayo has to be up there with the best burger condiments. It’s easy to open a jar and spoon it out but did you know it’s also super easy to make your own. Check out our recipe for Garlic & Herb mayo which is made using our flavoursome Garlic & Herb Oil.

Spread it generously on your bun and take your burger to the next level.

The ultimate burger side - Homemade fries

The Ultimate Crispy Chicken Burger

If beef burgers aren’t your thing then why not try a homemade crispy chicken burger instead. Our recipe for snap, crackle and crunch chicken fillets using cold pressed rapeseed oil is perfect for sandwiching in a brioche burger bun with lettuce and some homemade garlic & herb mayo.

Spicy Melting Middle Cheese Burgers

This is quick and delicious way to spice up your National Burger Day.

  1. Add 500g of lean beef mince, a large handful of breadcrumbs and 1 tbsp of Pizza Drizzle Oil to a food processor and pulse until combined.

  2. Take a handful of the mixture and shape into a ball, then take a cube of cheese (a block of hard mozzarella is great for this) and push it into the middle of the burger ball.

  3. Using your hands, flatten and shape the ball into a burger, making sure that the piece of cheese remains covered.

  4. Cook your burger on the BBQ and serve in a burger bun with lots of fresh salad, ketchup, mayo, gherkins and mustard. When you bite into the burger you’ll be treated to a delicious burger with a melting middle.

We hope you’ve got some delicious ideas for celebrating National Burger Day, if you want to try any of them out head to our online shop to pick up some cold pressed British rapeseed oil.
