Our Top Tips For Making The Most Of The British Picnic Season

The window of opportunity for eating outdoors in the UK is often fleeting so we must make the most of the sun while it shines.

We love packing up some lunch, grabbing a picnic blanket and finding a perfect spot to enjoy some delicious food in the great outdoors.

If you love lunching in the fresh air, read on because we’ve got some delicious ideas for picnic food to share with you and some top tips for how to have the best picnic possible.

Say “so-long” to sarnies

We love a sandwich but we also love to change things up a bit. We love making a batch of either (or both!) of these savoury treats to take on a picnic.

These veggie delights are not only delicious but packed full of protein too.

Veggie and Lentil Samosas

Mushroom and puy lentil rolls

Keeping it sweet

It wouldn’t be a picnic without a little something sweet but we have two strict rules for the type of cake that can come on a picnic with us.

Those rules are no butter icing and no chocolate!

We swear by these two rules when picking a cake for our pack up as it dramatically reduces the mess and the stress. Who wants melted chocolate everywhere or a lunchbox full of melted icing!?

These two cake recipes are picnic tried and tested. You can’t go wrong.

Sticky Ginger cake

Lemon, raspberry and blueberry cake

Get Kitted Out

When it comes to picnic essentials, a picnic blanket or rug has got to be top of the list.

Our friends over at the Alfresco Dining Company have a great selection of picnic blankets

Whether you like a traditional woollen picnic rug or a waterproof backed picnic blanket in a fun and colourful print, there’s an option for every type of picnic adventure.

We love their St Ives picnic range for its classic coastal vibes in neutrals and shades of blue.

As well as a handy foldaway picnic blanket the St Ives range includes a traditional picnic hamper, cooler bag, drinks cooler bag and picnic backpack which we absolutely love as it makes having a picnic on the go so much easier.
