School visit at Littleseed farm

An unusual year

2020 has been an unusual year for everyone and it has meant a lot of plans have had to change here on the littleseed farm.

One of the things that we have missed the most is being able to welcome groups of school children and youth groups on to the farm to learn about food production, the environment, wildlife and how farmers help with nature conservation. Farms can be an inspirational environment that can really capture the imagination – and the attention – of children.

Learning in the great outdoors

Using the great outdoors as a classroom is a fantastic way to inspire young people and our visits have included farm walks, nature crafts and baking. By mixing fun with learning, a trip to a farm can be an incredibly exciting and motivating experience for children.

As part of our “Rapeseed Revolution” farm visits are part of our mission to educate and inspire the adults of the future to understand more about where their food and drink comes from. We also talk about how choosing British grown produce can have a positive impact on the environment and their own carbon footprint. Using rapeseed oil to cook with is just one small change that families can make to back British farming and at the same time reduce their carbon footprint.

However, while we haven’t been able to welcome visitors to the farm we have been busy adding even more kids activity sheets to our website. These downloadable activity and recipe sheets are a great resource to help children engage with cooking from an early age, explore the outdoors and get closer to nature.
