Our top tips for making pizza at home

Littleseed Pizza drizzle oil pouring on stone baked pizza

The team at littleseed LOVE PIZZA! We love eating it in restaurants, ordering takeaway pizza but most of all we love making pizzas in own at home.

We’ve eaten a lot of pizzas in our time so check out our top tips for making the ultimate homemade pizza.

The Pizza Ingredients - Keep it simple

  • The flour We like to use Italian Tipo 00 Flour.

  • The sauce We like to keep it simple with just tomatoes. Italian San Marzano are great but any tinned tomatoes will do.

  • The cheese It’s got to be mozzarella. If you’re splashing out a ball of the finest Mozzarella di Buffala is perfection but there’s nothing wrong with using grated mozzarella if you want to keep your pizzas low budget.

  • Finishing touches A scattering of fresh basil leaves and our Garlic, Chilli and Oregano littleseed Pizza Drizzle Oil is the ultimate finishing touch. Drizzle it on or have a pot on the side to dip into, either way you wont regret it.

Making the dough

Ideally you want to prep your dough 24 hours before you want to cook and eat your pizza. While it requires a bit of organisation this bit of prep doesn’t take long to make and in our opinion it makes a huge difference to the finished pizza. There are so many dough recipes out there and you may have a favourite depending on the style of pizza base you like (Neopolitan, Romano, Siciliana, New York, Chicago style etc).

Our go to dough recipe is the Neopolitan Dough from Pizza Pilgrims - find the recipe in their book or here on their website.

Cooking your pizza

When it comes to cooking our pizzas you can’t beat a woodfired pizza oven, we have an Ooni Karu pizza oven and we love it. You’ll even find us out in the garden cooking pizzas in the middle of winter because we love it so much.

But if you don’t have the budget for a portable pizza oven there are plenty of other ways to cook your pizza.

Alternative ways to cook your pizza

  • In a frying pan - check out the Pizza Pilgrims dough recipe for more info

  • In the oven on a pizza stone - These are relatively cheap to pick up from any kitchenware retailer

  • In the oven on a preheated baking tray
