Waste less, enjoy more
Food is a massive part of how we celebrate Christmas, and every family has their own different version of dishes and or favourite foods that have become part of the way they celebrate a traditional Christmas.
We love celebrating with food, filling up on our favourite festive treats and then snoozing on the sofa. The snooze itself has become a bit of a tradition! But there’s always a risk that our eyes are bigger than our bellies and before we realise it, food has gone to waste.
At littleseed we’re passionate all year round about cutting down on food waste and helping everyone to get the most out of the food they buy so with that in mind here are a few of our favourite ways to use up those leftovers and cut down on food waste this Christmas.
Easy cheesy - make homemade cheese scones with leftover cheese
We love a cheese board at Christmas, but after a few days of eating to excess our enthusiasm for rich food like cheese can run low. So our advice is not to let it go mouldy in the fridge but to use it to make cheese scones. You can use so many different types of cheese in scones so whether it’s crumbly, squidgy, blue or a classic cheddar get it in those scones. Cheese scones freeze really-well and are great served with soup.
Epic leftovers sandwiches
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again! Sometimes we enjoy eating the leftovers more than the actual Christmas dinner. Without a doubt the thing we look forward to most is using our leftovers to make EPIC sandwiches, one of our favourites has got to be a festive grilled cheese sandwich.
A souper idea - make soup from Christmas leftovers
This might seem like an obvious one but we’re going to say it anyway - make soup with your leftovers. Leftover cooked veg (root veg likes parsnips and carrots work particularly well) can be sauteed with some onions or leeks in littleseed Extra Virgin British rapeseed oil, add stock, herbs, spices and some red lentils, simmer for 30 minutes and then blitz in a blender. If you don’t need to eat it straight away, store it in the freezer.

Eat your greens - use sprouts in a stir fry
If you bought a stick of sprouts that was way bigger than you needed, don’t despair! Sprouts are great in stir fries. Chop them in half and fry in our spicy stir fry oil with your other favourite veggies. Add some leftover turkey pieces, soy sauce and lime juice then serve with noodles or rice.
